About the Artist
Kathy “Sky” Schuyler
I have lived in the Midwest and both East and West coasts of the USA, as well as Europe. I’ve been a scholar, a teacher, a business owner, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. Traveling is one of my passions, and my life has been a wonderful mosaic of different places, cultures, languages, people, and experiences. As a young girl, castles, museums, cathedrals, canals, creeks, rivers, and oceans charmed me. Is it any wonder that after a 30-year teaching career, I found the artist inside me through mosaics? I love seeking out bits and pieces of the world and reuniting, recycling, reusing, and rearranging them into new creations. Using a wide variety of materials – hand-cut pieces of fine china, stained glass, fusible glass, shattered glass, figurines, beads, and jewelry, I create three-dimensional pieces as well as wall art. Sometimes I give in to my structured side and create final products that reflect precision and pattern, but it’s also fun to let the pieces take me where they want to go!
