Pique Assiette
Pique assiette, also known as picassiette, is a mosaic art using hand-cut pieces of broken plates, dishes, cups, tiles, pottery, and found objects. The artist arranges the pieces in patterns or designs and adheres them one-by-one to either flat (stepping stones, plaques, frames, etc.) or 3-dimensional (flower pots, concrete garden art, furniture, etc.) objects.
The name comes from the French pique-assiette, meaning "one who eats from others' plates". The appeal and expressiveness of pique assiette lies in the ideas of lateral thinking, humor, recycling, and the significance of the found objects.
